The Blended Learning Cookbook by Clive Shepherd
Saffron Interactive / London, UK / 17-Jan-2006

We are delighted to announce that The Blended Learning Cookbook, written in collaboration with e-Learning guru Clive Shepherd, is now available.

Some people might argue that e-Learning was a big idea that made great promises which it has since failed to live up to. Now the world of training has been struck by a new idea in the form of blended learning, these same people may fear it will result in similar disappointment. It looks and feels different and seems to promise much, but will it only prove to be more 'bland' than 'blended'?

In order to provide some clarity to the situation, Saffron Interactive asked Clive Shepherd to put together the Blended Learning Cookbook. This will provide practitioners with interesting reading as it is full of blueprints for best practice and examples of outstanding successes.

"If you were a chef and traveled to a country where they only ever ate sandwiches, then you'd spot a gap in the market for a cookbook. That's how I saw things with blended learning. There are simply too many sandwiches! A bit of e-Learning as pre-work, the same old classroom course, a bit of e-Learning to follow-up… The best way to help trainers to think creatively is with examples, and so we've stuffed this cookbook full of imaginative recipes."
- Clive Shepherd, e-Learning Director, The Training Foundation.

The Blended Learning Cookbook is for anyone who wishes to improve the effectiveness of their current training interventions, anyone who wants to understand how e-Learning can be integrated into a broader learning process and for anyone looking for innovative approaches to training.

On 25th & 26th January, Saffron Interactive will be launching the Blended Learning Cookbook live on their Stand (S9) at the Learning Technologies Show 2006 to be held at London Olympia. Clive Shepherd will also be in attendance and signing copies of the book. So if you are interested in how blended learning solutions can help improve your business training needs, please visit the Saffron Interactive Stand to find out more.

Editor's Welcome

Hello! And welcome back as we enter 2012, with a busy year ahead of us all. With talk of double-dip recessions, a possible partial or even full break-up of the Eurozone and unemployment rates set to hit nearly 9%, topics such as organisational streamlining, staff resilience and talent management are likely to be on many an HR professional's lips over the next 12 months.

But to lighten the gloom here in the UK, we also have the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and its attendant public holidays to look forward to at the start of June. Followed by two weeks of Olympic Games from 27 July to 12 August and the Paralympics from 29 August to 9 September, each generating their own excitement, but also issues to work through for hard-pressed HR departments trying to sort out the multifarious staffing issues in advance.

So with an interesting but challenging year to come, HRZone promises to be with you, supporting you all the way and providing our usual insightful blend of news, analysis, community blogs and expert comment to help you sort the wheat from the chaff. As ever, we love to hear from you too so feel free to either post your words of wisdom to our blog section yourself or, in the case of longer, more in-depth ‘expert voice’ articles, drop me a line with any ideas to cath.everett@siftmedia.co.uk.....
