A market leader in the provision of HR and Payroll training and nationally recognised professional qualifications, HRD & Payroll Solutions are highly experienced in teaching about common HR and payroll problems. A wide selection of tips, tricks and guidance can be seen below. HRZone.co.uk highly recommends that any tips are taken as a starting point for guidance only.

Question:
"We have made some employees redundant and they are now demanding that we let them have time off to seek other work. How do we and they stand?"

HR tip:
Employees who have two years' service and have been declared redundant are entitled to reasonable time off work during their statutory notice period to seek alternative work or training opportunities.

'Reasonable' is not defined and, if taken to law, would be within the judgment of the tribunal. Employees who so qualify are entitled to a total of two days pay for this time off. You may find it prudent to allow them all, regardless of length of service, a generous amount of time off, though at times to suit you. Good will is most important at this stage.
