Thursday, 11th August: The Focus Group have announced today the dates and line-up for Engaging for Success 2011, an event dedicated to Employee Engagement. This year, they have attracted speakers from major organisations such as Virgin Active, Unilever, O2 and Deutsche Bank, as well as from the government-backed Task Force on Employee Engagement and authors of research on Employee Value Proposition.

The event is being sponsored by KPMG, who are also hosting it at their premises in London. Co-sponsors VOVICI are leading suppliers of business intelligence software.

Maggie Wheeler, Director of the Focus Group, said: “We are able to attract delegates to events because of the quality of the speakers, and the relevance of the messages they deliver. In a time of strained resources, employee engagement remains a low-cost, high-outcome method of companies maintaining and improving their brands. Engaging for Success (EFS) is about equipping our delegates to increase their engagement with any organisation’s prime resource – its people.”

“I’m really pleased with the breadth of speakers we’ve managed to attract to this event; from the public and private sectors, as well as leaders in academic research. Also the support of KPMG and VOVICI illustrates that employee engagement is seen as important regardless of the market sector you occupy.”

“Last year, we hosted delegates from 75 companies and public institutions whose combined turnover exceeded £250bn and who employ hundreds of thousands of staff. Delegates to our events return every year because of the value of the information they learn, and speakers know that they are engaging with those people able to make decisions and change policy.”

“I believe that employee engagement is a key component of stability and growth. As a result, I’m looking forward to the impact I expect EFS to have on the way organisations are run in the future.”

Engaging for Success 2011 takes place on the 16th – 17th November at the KPMG London Office, 15 Canada Square, London E14 5GL.

Editor's Welcome

Hello! I'm a great believer in the power of stories, whether they be folk tales, novels, films or TV dramas.

They have a wonderful ability to get complex moral or social issues over to us in a palatable, easy-to-understand way and can provide many lessons if only we care to look just a little bit below the surface.

But they can also act as a fun starting point for discussion and debate on rather more serious topics that are all too often brushed under the carpet and ignored.

Hence our decision to start up a Review slot on the site to look at those everyday stories that are all around us from an HR perspective.

Although we've been publishing book reviews (take a look at our Book Club list of suggested possible non-fiction works for evaluation here) for some time, you may also have noticed that we've been running a weekly home page blog on The Apprentice courtesy of The Chemistry Group for a while now.

And Pauline Wood, managing director at specialist retail headhunter, court & spark consulting, was likewise kind enough to write our first film review on the Headhunters movie.

But the big question is, why don't you give it a go yourself? There's a world of choice out there and I, like the rest of the community, would love to hear your thoughts and insights.

So next time you watch a movie, see a TV drama or read a novel that you think has an HR message worth sharing, send your review to me at cath.everett@siftmedia.co.uk or post it directly to our blogs section at www.hrzone.co.uk/blogs.

So get critiquing and look forward to hearing from you very soon.....
