A website for working mums and flexible work jobseekers has launched it's own awards to see which workplaces are most family-friendly.

Workingmums.co.uk, a website for professional working mums and flexible jobseekers, is proud to announce the launch of its inaugural annual Top Employer Awards to publicly recognise and celebrate the achievements of companies offering leading practices in flexible working, diversity and work life balance.

The Workingmums.co.uk Top Employer Awards is designed to recognise employers who are progressive in their flexible working practices and proactive in seeking to assist working parents combine successful careers with being a parent.

From a survey conducted on-site, 79% of women value flexibility in the way they work, including flexible hours, home working or part-time work ,according to a survey of over 1,600.

Gillian Nissim, Founder of Workingmums.co.uk says: “We’ve decided to launch the awards on the back of demand from employers and candidates alike - we want to share good practice and inspire others. Too often the case for flexible working is argued simply as an employee benefit.  The organisations that we work with are demonstrating that new, more flexible ways of working offer many benefits for both employer and employee.”

The Workingmums.co.uk Top Employer Awards has its own microsite where companies can enter the awards.

Winners will be announced at an award ceremony being held at The Soho Hotel, London, on 5th October 2010. Closing date for entries is 23rd July 2010.

Editor's Welcome

Hello! And welcome back as we enter 2012, with a busy year ahead of us all. With talk of double-dip recessions, a possible partial or even full break-up of the Eurozone and unemployment rates set to hit nearly 9%, topics such as organisational streamlining, staff resilience and talent management are likely to be on many an HR professional's lips over the next 12 months.

But to lighten the gloom here in the UK, we also have the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and its attendant public holidays to look forward to at the start of June. Followed by two weeks of Olympic Games from 27 July to 12 August and the Paralympics from 29 August to 9 September, each generating their own excitement, but also issues to work through for hard-pressed HR departments trying to sort out the multifarious staffing issues in advance.

So with an interesting but challenging year to come, HRZone promises to be with you, supporting you all the way and providing our usual insightful blend of news, analysis, community blogs and expert comment to help you sort the wheat from the chaff. As ever, we love to hear from you too so feel free to either post your words of wisdom to our blog section yourself or, in the case of longer, more in-depth ‘expert voice’ articles, drop me a line with any ideas to cath.everett@siftmedia.co.uk.....
